Tellogen effluvium is the most common cause of diffuse non-scarring alopecia. It is characterized by an abrupt onset of diffuse hair loss usually seen 2-3 months after a triggering event(fever, medication, systemic illness, hormonal, thyroid etc). It is usually self-limiting lasting for 6 months whereas in chronic tellogen effluvium it persists beyond 6 months. It can be reverted to normal with proper treatment protocol.
