The vast majority of Stretchmarks has been reported in pregnant women, weight gain, Cushing’s syndrome & chronic steroid use. The causes of Stretchmarks are proposed to be due to the mechanical effect of tissue stretching from growth in adolescence and rapid increase in the size of certain locations of the body. The most common areas which are affected are the abdomen, breasts, buttocks, shoulders, hands and thighs. Earlier-stage or immature Stretchmarks tend to appear pink or red in colour (striae rubra) and over time with atrophic changes attain a white colour (striae Alba).
